Gyalwang Drukpa receives Bharat Jyoti award

GANGTOK, MAY 27, 2010 (Sikkim Express), click here to see original news in PDF format: Gyalwang Drukpa, head of the Drukpa Lineage (proponent of Mahayana Buddhist philosophy) was conferred with Bharat Jyoti Award presented by India International Friendship Society in New Delhi on May 24.

The award was received by Kyabje Kunga Rinpoche on behalf of the head of the Drukpa Lineage. This award, a press release informs, re-establishes the contribution of Gyalwang Drukpa towards the betterment of society and spreading the message of live to love among people in the world, especially in the areas of promoting gender equality, protecting environment and preserving cultural and social heritages in the Himalayas.

The India International Friendship Society is one of India's leading voluntary organizations and advocates strongly in economic growth and national integration. It also stands as a champion in the vital area of forging friendships between individuals, corporates, regions, religions and nations for peace, progress and prosperity of the global community. The Society has awarded the same to many eminent personalities from different walks of life including Mother Teresa.

Thanking the organization, the Gyalwang Drukpa said this in his speech, "I am extremely honoured to be conferred the Bharat Jyoti Award by the Indian International Friendship Society, one of India's leading organizations that advocate economic growth and national integration.
